Copyright & Licensing
Last Updated: 16 September 2025
When you license an image, you’re purchasing the right to use it for specific purposes. Ownership of the copyright always remains with Snapshot Photography, unless explicitly transferred.
To provide the correct license, please supply the following details:
- Usage – Is the image for personal, editorial, or commercial use?
- Size – What size/resolution do you require?
- Period – How long will the image be used?
- Media – Where will the image appear (web, print, social, advertising, etc.)?
- Territory – In which country or region will the image be used?
Personal Use License
- For private, non-commercial use (e.g., printing, framing, personal social media).
- Not permitted for resale, business, or promotional use.
Editorial License
- For use in newspapers, blogs, educational material, or non-commercial publications.
- Not permitted for advertising, endorsements, or marketing campaigns.
Commercial License
- For use in business and marketing (websites, ads, brochures, social media, etc.).
- Non-transferable and cannot be resold to third parties.
Web / Digital Use License
- Specifically for online usage (websites, blogs, email campaigns, digital ads).
- Does not include print or large-scale advertising rights.
Print / Reproduction License
- Allows reproduction of the image in physical formats (flyers, posters, merchandise, magazines).
- May include limitations on the number of copies.
Exclusive License
- Grants the client exclusive rights for the agreed usage.
- The same image will not be licensed to other clients for similar purposes.
Non-Exclusive License
- The client may use the image for agreed purposes, but the photographer retains the right to license it to others.
Royalty-Free License
- One-time payment for ongoing use across multiple projects (within agreed scope).
- Still subject to usage restrictions — not a full transfer of ownership.
Rights-Managed License (Default)
- Tailored for a specific project, duration, and territory.
- Non-exclusive unless otherwise stated.
- Additional uses require additional licenses.
Full Buyout / Copyright Transfer
- The client purchases complete ownership of the image, including copyright.
- Photographer forfeits all rights to license, resell, or use the image.
- This option is rare and priced at a premium.
Scope of Use
- The license covers only the usage specified in the quotation or invoice.
- Any additional usage requires a new license.
Ownership
- All images remain the property of Snapshot Photography unless a full buyout is agreed upon.
Restrictions
- Licenses are non-transferable and non-sublicensable.
- Clients may not alter images in ways that misrepresent the original work.
Protection
- Clients must take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized use or distribution.
Attribution
- Credit to Snapshot Photography may be required for editorial and non-commercial uses, unless otherwise agreed.
Liability Disclaimer
- Snapshot Photography is not responsible for any costs, damages, or losses resulting from the use of licensed images.
Pricing:
- Pricing is determined based on the intended usage of the image. Each license type has its own cost, depending on scope, exclusivity, and distribution.
